Tim joined our company in 2006 as one of our very first employees.
‘I started out as a warehouse employee, but in a small team of only four people, I ended up wearing many hats. I talked to customers in our showroom, ansewered phonecalls and back then we even did engravings by hand by electro-etching the metal. Ended up giving myself a shock once or twice, haha!’
As Knivesandtools grew, so did Tim. He had a front-row seat to the evolution of the company and he evolved along with it. His responsibilities have expanded considerably.
‘I am now the team lead of the Warehouse, coordinating a team of over 20 colleagues. I plan all tasks, improve processes and solve any problems that come up. I am also involved in the selection of prospective employees who respond to our job openings.’
There is always room for innovation at Knivesandtools, and Tim has proved this in a unique way.
‘We used large amounts of filler in our parcels to safely ship all the products. This filling consisted of paper pads. One day I had a good idea: why don't we modify the box slightly so that it can be internally adapted to fit the product that goes inside? This way, we could safely ship our products without using any filling material! Not only would it save on costs, it would also be more environmentally-friendly.’
Thanks to Tim's clever invention, we now use 60-70% less filling material. We recycle the remaining material as much as possible, using the filler from the shipments we receive from our suppliers.
‘Ensuring the daily completion of our tasks is where I find the most fulfillment. The holiday season is always very busy for the Warehouse, which is why the entire company jumps in to ensure all orders leave on time. During this period, I also supervise colleagues who normally work in the office, who now roll up their sleeves to help out. It feels great when we successfully complete all our tasks as a team, even during peak season.’
